By 1869 construction of the two major extensions of the railroad was complete. The first, to Branchville was opened on July 3, 1869 and the second, to Franklin opened a few months later having been delayed by the construction of two large stone arches outside of the town. Notice that Newton was left dangling on a spur at this time, causing the citizens of that town to raise money in order that the railroad would build a connection through town. |
