Map adapted from: The Lackawanna Railroad in Northwest New Jersey - Lowenthal/Greenberg
South Vernon Branch

In the 1870s a four mile extension from Hamburg to McAfee was built to the limestone and mineral deposits there. This ‘South Vernon branch’ was later sold to the burgeoning Lehigh & Hudson River Railroad in 1881 and is the only Sussex Railroad trackage still in use by trains today. This is the Sussex Branch at it's greatest length.
