1883

In 1881 the South Vernon Branch of the Sussex Railroad (that unconnected segment from Hamburg to McAfee) was sold to the Lehigh & Hudson River Railroad as they built south west towards Belvidere. The L&HR was also building northeast from Belvidere at this time, stopping at Andover because of a sink hole. For a few months, the L&HR actually ran trains over the Sussex Branch via a temporary connection from Andover, through Newton to Franklin, where they picked up the N.Y.S.& W. track to Hamburg and northwards. |
