Tweaking
an IHC Pacific more towards the DL&W
WARNING - Appalling modeling methods below!

Color
photos of these engines are very handy. The only source I'm
aware of comerecially is Mike DelVecchio's book Lackawanna
Trackside.

I
was gifted an IHC Lackawanna Pacific this Christmas. It's funny, IHC
had it numbered as a consolidation. Anyway, I've tweaked it a bit
and I thought I'd share the simple things I did to make it more like
a DLW pacific.
Looking
at the engine, I decided I could make it look somewhat like the 1116,

Numbers
I have
spotted the following Pacifics in photographs either on or definitely
heading to/from the Sussex Branch:
- 1115
(streamstyled and otherwise)
- 1116
- 1118
- 1125
- 1134
- 1137
- 1139
- 1140

engine
that definitely plied the rails of the Sussex Branch. I started by
cutting off the steps along side the boiler. These steps don't even
resemble the ones on the pacifics in the 1130s, like the 1134.
The
steps were replaced with those single 'L' shaped steps made of strip
styrene. I also removed the bell and installed a CalScale bell between
the stack and sand dome.
I
put a visor on the headlamp using a small piece of electrical tape,
securing it with acc. (see warning above.)
Forming
a 'toolbox' from a piece of square stock and installing two styrene
'struts' under the smoke box pretty much satisfies me at this point.
I
painted the smokebox aluminum, the handrails grimy black and touched
up a few other areas with paint after numbering this beast 1116 (including
the back of the tender.)
By
the way, I'm well aware the tender is not right for this engine.
Any ideas on easy replacements? The headlamp on the tender functions
and it would be a shame to lose it.
