Christmas is on the horizon. People are talking about where to get their Christmas trees, and children sharing what Father Christmas has asked them for. There are many seasonal activities and sights to be seen in Brighton, which is a beautiful and lively city.
Things to do in festive Brighton
The annual Brighton Santa Dash is for the more energetic on Saturday, 10 December at 10.30 am. The 5km charity run is for a good cause. It helps to build schools in Africa. Entry is only PS12 and includes a Santa suit and medal. Children can also participate for free. You can enjoy the event at your own pace, even if you are not as fit as you thought. It is a great way to see Brighton and meet locals.
You can also try ice skating at the Ice Rink located in front of the historic Royal Pavilion if you prefer something more relaxed. After the event, you might want to take a stroll around Brighton’s historic shopping area, the Lanes. If you are lucky, you might find someone selling a glass or two of mulled wine or roasting chestnuts.
The “Warhol is Here” exhibit at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea is a bit more arty. The exhibition, which is currently on tour from Tate London, will be open daily between 10am-6pm. The exhibition includes a mixture of screen prints, drawings, stitched photos, and films. The sound installation “The search for Andy Warhol’s voice” also features interviews with people who are associated with the artist. It tells the story of the man through his words and shows the relationship he had to everyone in his life.
The Magical Event, a special seasonal event held in Rye, East Sussex on the 10th December is also available. The day will include entertainments, including a Christmas Market at the Strand Quay. At 4.30pm Father Christmas and his reindeer will be on the streets of Rye town leading them. Later, Father Christmas will visit Rye castle Museum where children can meet him with his reindeer. If you are planning a trip to East Sussex during December, it will be a memorable time.
